Who We Are
Brigit’s Bounty Community Resources (BBCR) started as a small garden funded by a Hidden Valley Ranch Grant completed by a mother in the community. She recognized a need for both a community giving garden and a field trip destination for the local elementary school, which has one of the highest rates of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch in its district. The garden continued to grow as the community began to increasingly value it and the resources that it brought to local students, adults, and families alike. The garden and its programming incorporated into a 501(c)3 organization called Brigit's Bounty Community Resources in 2011. The organization’s mission is “to provide education, training and resources toward transforming the lives of individuals and strengthening the Carbon Valley Community.”
What We Do
Brigit’s Bounty Community Resources is a nonprofit that donates all the food grown in their 1-acre garden to Meals on Wheels and alongside the local Mobile Food Banks. BBCR provides educational resources to classrooms, both at the school and when classes visit the garden on field trips. BBCR additionally provides programming for youth, including those from low-income families, throughout the summer months with their low-cost Summer Garden Camp. BBCR hosted their inaugural After-School Garden Camp virtually in the spring of 2020, which expanded on the scope of the horticulture and nutrition curriculum that is offered during their summer camps. BBCR hopes to offer an in-person After-School Garden Camp in fall 2021. BBCR also supports county-wide programming that targets youth for job training and encourages high school students and young adults to complete community service projects. BBCR has expanded a great amount since its establishment in 2011 with the addition of more Summer Garden Camp sessions, the introduction of their After-School Garden Camp, a chicken coop, multiple beehives, and the hiring of a year-round Garden & Education Coordinator. Brigit’s Bounty Community Resources currently serves as an integral resource to the Carbon Valley community where accessible programming and resources like those provided by BBCR are difficult to access.
