Volunteer: Learn More About Preparing and Serving Meals at the Overnight Shelter

Volunteers are expected to cook (or purchase ready-to-eat hot meals) in advance of the volunteer shift and bring the food COOKED to serve.

The purpose of this volunteer position is to help support the HNC’s Overnight Shelter program staff with meal service for all guests at the shelter. The volunteers that help with meal service will work alongside program staff to give them the time and capacity to complete the guest check-in and intake process every evening at the shelter.

Responsibilities and Duties

Cook meals for approximately 60 servings beforehand and bring them hotWall plugs for crockpots and hot storage are available Prep meal service area Plate and serve meals to all guests Serve drinks to guests (tea, hot cocoa, coffee, hot water) Take your materials home at the end of the shift

Qualifications 

Volunteers between the ages of 14-17 must attend with a parent/guardian Good communication skills Good organizational skills Interested in the efforts of the HNC Good problem solver Dress code Casual. Please do not wear short shorts or crop tops. If you have long hair please tie it up or be prepared to wear a hair net. Volunteer: Good Neighbor Clean Up - Housing Navigation Center

This is a volunteer opportunity catered to group and workplace volunteers only. Please contact Brianna Hardy at bhardy@unitedway-weld.org or (970) 304-6187 to sign up.

The Housing Navigation Center (HNC) is a resource facility in Weld County that helps to get families and individuals who are currently (or on the brink of) homelessness into stable housing. The HNC is off of Highway 34, behind Drivewise. The HNC team hosts the Good Neighbor Clean Up to ensure the facility is being a good neighbor to everyone who works at or visits this facility. Volunteers may help pick up trash, wash windows, provide basic interior maintenance, organize supplies, or help with various other supportive projects in and out of the HNC and shelter.
